Focus on Learning

Stage 2

Literacy

Stage 2 is excited to delve deeper into the world of imagery, symbolism, and connotation in writing. We have been exploring a range of rich and engaging texts to identify how authors use descriptive language to paint pictures in our minds and convey deeper meanings. Alongside this, students are learning to use figurative language, including similes, metaphors, and personification, to add creativity and flair to their own writing.

We are doing this to help us become more expressive and thoughtful writers who can communicate feelings, ideas, and imagery with clarity and imagination.

Stage 2 is busy as bees as we read, discuss, and experiment with language every day. We are also getting excited about our Spelling Bee in week 6.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we are currently working on measurement. Being able to select the correct tool to measure is an essential skill for everyday life. We are identifying and working with millimetres, centimetres, and metres, and learning when each unit is most appropriate to use.

We have been making our best estimations of the lengths of various objects before measuring them to check how close we are. We are also practicing converting millimetres to centimetres and centimetres to metres. There have been some pretty impressive estimations happening in Stage 2 lately!

Sport

In Sport, we are learning tennis skills. We are practicing gentle passes, taking turns to serve, and working on our coordination when receiving the ball. It has been a great opportunity to build teamwork, patience, and control. Stage 2 is enjoying the challenge, and we are having quite a lot of fun out on the court!
