Circus Splendida, Success

The circus definitely came to town last night and the great news is that it will be returning tonight to the Alexander Theatre, Monash University.

Last night the audience was treated to an evening of first-class entertainment. The journey to produce such a whole school musical production has been epic. From a small group of year 5 students appealing to me while I was on yard duty 12 months ago for the school to have a musical to the end result which we are now enjoying.

Following our Year 6 auditions in Term 1, the whole school began in Term 2 to learn their songs, choreography followed, then rehearsals began soon after this, it’s been a long journey but so rewarding.

The change from a school concert to a musical this year has enabled students to have the experience of playing a role, which I feel the whole cast relished in.

Playing a role means acting in ways you might not normally behave in real life. Your job as an actor is to make an audience believe your performance is real. An essential step in character development is identifying how you relate to the character and under what circumstances you would behave the same way. This has been the challenge for all our performers on stage but in particular our main cast and I am just so proud of how they all embraced the challenge, which took them right out of their comfort zone.

I do hope that the confidence the students have gained over the musical journey is only the beginning that they will take this confidence and use it in future opportunities.

I would like to thank all the staff for all their hard work, enthusiasm and commitment. Can I also add in here patience, to make the musical the success it is.

As with any musical someone must oversee the production and pull it altogether this person has been Mrs Searle. Clare has been the unofficial Director of Circus Splendida, she has been the one who has worked tirelessly with the main cast as well as many of the other acts, Clare has worked on costuming, managing whole school rehearsals, the list goes on.  A huge thank you to Mrs Searle.

Finally, thank to you all who have attended and to those who have tickets for tonight’s performance, your enthusiasm and engagement and support for the students is so gratefully appreciated.

Purchasing a ticket entitles you to a copy of the video of the musical which will be taken at tonight’s performance. We do ask that you do not post any of the photos or video to social media, etc.

Year 3 and 4 Camp

The students returned from Camp on Friday, a little tired but bubbling with excitement about their camp experiences. From all accounts it was action packed from dawn to dusk.

Here are some quotes about camp -

'I liked the giant swing because it was high and exciting!' - Gemma

'The Penguin Parade was the best because they were so cute!' - Jojanneke

'The favourite part was the food, it was delicious' - Ryan

'My highlight was creating the sand sculpture at Smith's Beach' - Eric

'I loved the adrenaline rush when I jumped off the platform for the flying fox' - Sid

‘I loved the giant swing because I hadn’t done anything like that before’ - Vincent.

A huge thank you to the parents who volunteered for the camp – Deepa, Kelene, Libby, Orsi and Yan and of course a huge thank you to all the staff for their attendance.  Special thanks to Mr Kenez who jumped at the opportunity to attend camp. More photos can be found later in the newsletter.
