Copperfield College Alumni Program

Celebrating and connecting our past students, the Copperfield College Alumni Program has made a powerful start in its first year – and we're just getting started. Through school events, phone calls, emails and correspondences, we have connected with many alumni of Kings Park and Copperfield College. Below is just a snapshot of what we’ve achieved so far. We’re looking forward to continuing to grow the alumni program in 2026!

Alumni event highlights

In a relaxed setting at the Sydenham library this term, the junior campus students and teachers of Copperfield College welcomed three expert alumni for a lively lunchtime event, focussed on wellbeing, resilience and career pathways in health care industries.Following the Q&A session and a short mindfulness activity led by alum and positive psychology coach Amber, students got the opportunity to speak with the former students one-on-one, hearing from their experiences and gaining invaluable insights on careers and strategies for lifelong wellbeing.Thank you to our three esteemed alumni, Dylan D’Roza (class of 2013), Amber Portelli (class of 2019) and Piera Ibrahim (class of 1994) for sharing your stories and taking the time to give back to your old school.

Thanks again to Alysha Anwar (class of 2023), who visited Ms Faryal Niazi's Year 10 class studying VCE Biology.

Pictured is Alysha with Ms Niazi – a key source of inspiration in Alysha's study pathways – and answering student queries about her studies, and life as a full-time university student at University of Melbourne.

Earlier this term, students and teachers had the pleasure of having Isabelle Dalli visit their classes at Copperfield College.

Isabelle, who graduated in 2022, is following her dreams to become a pilot, speaking with students who share the same dream, and former teachers who helped encourage her along the way.

Isabelle, thank you for your time, generosity, and inspiration. Your story reminds us all to aim high and chase what sets our hearts alight. Keep your eyes on the skies!

Alam Singh, a talented pianist who achieved the highest score for VCE Music at Copperfield College in 2024, spoke with Year 12 music students about his tips for success, study methods, performance tips, and even generously performed his own piece of music for the class.

Currently taking a gap year, Alam will be commencing his Bachelor of Arts degree with the University of Melbourne in 2026.

Thank you, Alam, for taking the time to give back to your old school. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours!

Copperfield College Captain Pride

From leading assemblies to representing every student voice, our College Captains embody the heart and soul of our school community, as 2023 College Captain Todd Truong beautifully puts it.

"Being a college captain is not just having your name written in gold on a plaque in the school administration office. Being a college captain is...rewarding, joyful, and amazing, despite occasional feelings of...worry and self-doubt." Todd Truong

We celebrate Copperfield College's ongoing legacy of student leadership at all campuses, for providing students with opportunities to step up, make their voices known, and fly the school flag with pride. Here are two messages from our 2005 College Captains, Zeljka Sabo and Hai Nguyen.

"This year has proved to be challenging at times, yet I was ultimately Granted with life lessons and moments that will forever be cherished." Zeljka Sabo

"I hope the dreams that you aspired to were or are being fulfilled. And I also hope you were able to keep the previous friendships carried on from Year 12." Hai Nguyen

Alumni Q&A

Kuba Turan, Specialist Family Violence Practitioner, Class of 2012

We asked Kuba Turan, Specialist Family Violence Practitioner at GenWest and class of 2012 Copperfield College, about why she loves the work she does, how she takes care of herself while taking care of others, and what drives her social spirit.

“I love being able to support women and children, ensuring that they are safe and able to live independently,” Kuba says.

Over the years, she has worked across a range of specialist organisations, including Catholic Care Victoria, Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA), Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand Community House, and Child Protection.

“Work-life balance took me a long time to work out,” says Kuba, “when I first started it was very hard for me to switch from work, as I would often think about the families that I was supporting because I wanted to make sure they were safe; but I was taught very early on and make the conscious effort to practice self-care.”

In her self-care practice, Kuba ensures she takes time off work, and switches off. As burnout is common in the field of social work, Kuba makes the most of her weekends and time outside of work, spending time with friends, and reading books on feminism and true crime/thrillers.

“I really love anything that is beauty related; specifically, make-up where I enjoy make-up tutorials and recreating the looks,” Kuba says.

“If I was not in case management - I would’ve definitely taken the path of being a make-up artist, having my own small business and even having my product line.”

Thank you, Kuba, for sharing your story with us!
