Principal Message

Kings Park Campus Term 4, 2025

Hello to all members of Copperfield College, and in particular, those from the Kings Park community. Well it’s finally hitting us; the year is almost over and our attention and tasks are two-fold, ensuring 2025 finishes on the best note possible while continuing to make plans for the 2026 school year.

A snapshot of the last five weeks here at the Kings Park campus includes:

Be Bold Be Heard initiative – The female students who participated in the Be Bold Be Heard program this year worked on a project back at Copperfield College. Following is a recount of the project, held on Wednesday October 22 by our two Campus Captains, Umu Jalloh and Sarah Scarcella:

During the female seminar, students participated in a self-defence program hosted by the female leaders participating in a female empowerment program. Through their participation, they successfully practised self-defence and learnt how to defend themselves if they are ever in an unfortunate situation where they need to protect themselves physically.

We, as a team, also invited the local MP, Luba Grigorovitch, to participate in our Self-Defence festivities, along with our strong female principals, Ms Dedes and Ms Chiodo.

At the end, they were awarded with a showbag and pink donuts in celebration of their achievements! In the men’s lesson, our male students learned to define respect in interactions with women and identify the difference between respectful and disrespectful behaviour. They explored how tone and language shape communication and relationships, and discussed common stereotypes about women and the harm they cause in society. The session encouraged male students to reflect on healthy masculinity and challenge toxic standards of what it means to “be a man.” They shared practical strategies for showing respect, supporting equality, and challenging stereotypes in daily life. This formed the foundation of our “How to Be a Man” lesson, promoting mindful and responsible behaviour.

LOTE Week – During the week 27/10-31/10, Copperfield College celebrated LOTE week. LOTE Week was a vibrant celebration of our school’s Japanese and Italian programs, offering students a rich blend of cultural experiences. From enjoying authentic gelati and Japanese curry to participating in hands-on activities such as origami, bookmark making, mosaic art, and onigiri making (Japanese rice balls), students were immersed in the traditions of both languages. The week fostered creativity, curiosity, and appreciation for global cultures, making it a memorable highlight of the year

African Australian Student Conference – On October 28, 2025, Kings Park and Sydenham Junior Campus students actively participated in the African Australian Student Conference, held at Mission Whitten Oval in Footscray. Led by staff members Abebe and Tara, a group of eight students engaged with the conference's central theme, "Dreaming Out Loud: Our Future in Focus." This initiative, organized by the Department of Education aims to inspire and empower African heritage students by providing exposure to diverse career pathways and facilitating connections with accomplished African Australians professionals.

Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of interactive sessions, designed to broaden their career horizons and deepen their understanding of potential opportunities. The conference offered a unique platform for students to explore various industries, develop ambitious career goals, and strengthen their sense of identity and leadership. By connecting with professionals from diverse sectors, students gained valuable insights into real-life success stories and had the opportunity to envision their own futures with greater clarity and purpose. This experience promises to have a lasting impact on their academic and career aspirations

Year 10 Celebration Day – Year 10 students enjoyed a relaxed and positive Celebration Day to mark the end of their school year. They began with a locker clean-out, supported by teachers, where they organised belongings and donated any reusable books. Everyone then moved to the gym for a short assembly that included speeches from the Principal, student leaders, and staff, along with a video highlighting the year’s memories.

After the assembly, students had lunch with music and a photo booth for fun photos. The day finished with activities in the gym and nearby areas, including games, sports, and signing each other’s memory booklet. Following on from this Celebration Day, our Year 10s bid farewell to the Kings Park campus and commenced a new chapter in their educational journey by moving to Delahey to undertake both their exams and their Year 11 Transition program

Year 6/7 Parent Information Night – On November 11, the Kings Park campus welcomed the new members of our Copperfield College family with a very successful Parent Information Evening. Our guests were given an initial presentation in the gymnasium followed by their very first CONNECT class back in either D Team or L Team as (provisional) Year 7 students. The evening was a great success with a fabulous turnout and very excited children and families preparing themselves for 2026.

Year 7-9 Exams – Last week, our Year 7-9 students undertook a two-day examination period aimed at preparing them for the rigours of later education, be it in secondary school, university or even TAFE. It’s critical that these exams, the processes to be followed and the understanding of their importance is part of realising the school value of Excellence through raising the bar and setting high expectations for all.
