GOSPEL REFLECTION
Luke 18:9-14
“For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. The Pharisee boasts about all the good things he does, while the tax collector simply and sincerely asks God for mercy. Jesus reminds us that God values humility over pride.
This reading encourages us to look honestly at ourselves and to recognise that we all need God’s love and forgiveness. True prayer doesn’t come from showing off or comparing ourselves to others—it comes from a humble and grateful heart.
At school and in our daily lives, we can live this message by showing kindness, admitting when we make mistakes, and treating others with respect. When we act with humility, we open our hearts to grow in faith and become more like Jesus, be ready to listen, learn and love.
PRAYER
Loving God,
You teach us that true greatness comes from being humble and kind.
Help us to pray with honest hearts, not to seek praise,
but to grow closer to You each day.
Give us the courage to admit our mistakes
and the grace to treat others with respect and compassion.
May we always remember that You love us,
not for what we do, but for who we are.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
