Armidale Show 2024

 

On Thursday, 16 students travelled to Armidale to participate in their annual show with 12 head of cattle.

 

After washing cattle all afternoon and camping at the grounds, students woke to a lovely day and began junior judging at 9am with Border Leicester sheep, merinos, fruit and vegetables as well as beef cattle.

 

 

In the Fruit and Vegetables, Aila McBain placed 1st in the junior section, while Ilyssa Newbury and Jasmine Klingner made the finals, in the merinos Naishia Grob placed 2nd while Isla McIndoe placed 3rd in the intermediate section. Kirsty Bicknell placed 1st in intermediates in the meat sheep while Isla was asked to speak in the cattle section.

Following junior judging, the students then paraded in the paraders competition, Aila McBain winning the junior section, Hollie Smith, Isla McIndoe, Jasmine Klingner and Lloyd Newbury made the finals of the Intermediates with Isla, Jasmine and Lloyd placing 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.

 

With over 130 students and 9 schools competing the students from Glen Innes High School acquitted themselves exceptionally well.

 

Friday Evening and Saturday saw the heifer, steer and stud classes taking place, with all students participating. Highlights were, Champion Angus Female with Milby Vale Delphine, Champion Speckle Park Female with Winter Ti Amo, and Champion Speckle Park Bull, Supreme Champion Bull and Supreme Exhibit with Winter Stryker.

We would like to thank Jon and Allegra Pinferi from Parson Green Murray Greys, Scott and Kirsty Miller from Milby Vale Angus and John and Bev Winter from Winter Speckle Parks for allowing our students to prepare and parade their animals. Without the support of these studs, these excursions would not be able to take place.

 

Thank you also to Ms Ellie Smith for her bus driving and organisational skills.

 

Glen Innes Show 2024

The show began with bootcamp on Thursday with students helping to prepare cattle for the show and also walk them over to the showground.

 

On Friday, students met early to wash cattle and then moved to the shearing shed to participate in Junior Judging. The students had the opportunity to judge meat sheep, merinos, wool, grains and fruits and vegetables.

 

 

In the Meat Sheep, Will Lynn, Dylan Chaffey and Jack Floyd scooped the pool, coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

 

In the Grains judging, Will Lyn and Emma Bicknell came 1st and 2nd.

 

In Fleece judging, Charlie Templeton, Kade McBain and Aden McBain came 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Aden also came first in the Fruit and Vegetables section.

 

Students also participated in Cattle judging as well as cattle parading, with many of our students making the final.

At the conclusion of the junior classes students paraded heifers from Milby Vale Angus stud and Winter Speckle Park stud in the interbreed heifer classes.

 

Saturday saw the students back at the showground for the stud cattle classes.
