Principal's Report

It's been an eventful and fulfilling period here at GIHS over the past couple of weeks.

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent Year Group Overnight Team Bonding Camps, where students in Years 7, 8, and 9 had the opportunity to immerse themselves in local Aboriginal cultural experiences. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. Suzy Woods for her outstanding organizational efforts, as well as to Mrs. Chapman-Burgess and the invaluable assistance provided by Jeremy Budda-Deen, Micheal Minogue, and Dan BellLevy. Additionally, we would also like to express or thanks  to the Year Advisors and all staff who accompanied our students, whose dedication made these enriching experiences possible.

A big thank you also goes out to the students who participated; your exemplary behavior has garnered positive feedback from all corners. Well done! We eagerly await Year 10's upcoming excursion and anticipate hearing all about it.

We must also extend a huge thank you to the Glen Innes Aboriginal Land Council for generously allowing us to utilise the 'Willows,' a fantastic local facility. Our gratitude also goes to Shaun Faiers for his exceptional guided walking tours and ensuring all students were provided with swags for their stay.

Thank you to everyone involved for contributing to these memorable experiences for our students.

For Years 7 and 9, NAPLAN exams are scheduled to begin on March 12th. To all students undertaking these assessments, I wish you the very best. Remember, as long as you give it your all, your best is always good enough.

If you haven't received your Year 11 reports, please don't hesitate to get in touch with the school.

Preparations for the Year 7 Aussie Bush camp are underway. A friendly reminder that deposits are due, and for families making installment payments, please continue to do so. Detailed information regarding the excursion, including what to pack, will be provided shortly.

Families should have received their students' assessment schedules on March 11th. These documents, mandated by the NSW Education and Standards Authority (NESA), are invaluable tools for planning and supporting student achievement. Grades awarded align with the requirements of the RoSA for Year 10 and 11 students, and the HSC for Year 12 students.

A quick reminder to all students and families: full school uniform is mandatory. As the weather cools down, please note that hoodies and tracksuit pants are not part of our uniform. Students may layer their uniforms for warmth instead.

School fees are now due. We would like to gently remind our families that if you require financial assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school. All inquiries will be handled with utmost respect and confidentiality. Your well-being and the education of your child are our top priorities.
