VET Classes are up and Running

There is lots of exciting happenings in the VET space this year. VET stands for Vocational Education and Training and can be part of the VCE, VCE VM and LEAP programs here at Naz.

We have 116 Nazareth students undertaking VET both externally at various RTO’s (Registered training Organisations) and internally with some new courses offered here this year. We also have 20 external students coming to Naz to study these new VET subjects here.

What are we offering at Naz?

Certificate III Business- Taught by Mr Mitchel Berryman and includes three external students. Mitchel is renown for his work in our ICT department but his call to teaching has spurred him on to further study on many fronts and he now comes to us with enthusiasm and tenacity. He is one multiskilled clever cookie.

Certificate III Music Performance  - Taught by Ms

Tamzyn Alexander – our fabulous new opera singer who has joined our Music Department. She is a little pocket rocket and comes with a wealth of industry experience and we are so excited to have her here.

Certificate II Salon Assistance  -  Taught by Ms Vicky Paladino. Vicky is a past student, past parent and now a current VET teacher here. See … Naz is so awesome it weaves people back to us. Vicky has spent her career in the Hairdressing industry and has quickly become a pied piper for future 'glamazons' at Nazareth.

Certificate II Retail Cosmetics – Taught by Natalie Stevens who runs Inspiring Beauty in Boronia/Bayswater. She is fierce and fabulous and is a leading expert in teaching VET programs. Retail Cosmetics is the first year of Certificate III Beauty Services which we are hoping to offer in 2025 under Natalie's guidance. She is motivated, passionate and simply wonderful.

These courses (with the exception of Music, which runs in our Auditorium) operate out of the Joseph Centre which has become a VET Centre on Wednesdays, filled with students clad in uniform black from surrounding schools and from Nazareth.

We are so excited to get these classes off the ground and have visions of growing our VET offerings in future years. The benefit of offering VET courses on campus here is that students can complete certificate courses without leaving the College and missing out on classes whilst travelling to other venues to study a VET course.

As for students studying elsewhere ...

... we have students going to Swinburne, Holmesglen, Carwatha Secondary College, Chisholm, Hallam Secondary College, Skillinvest, Foundation Learning Centre, Box Hill Institute, St Johns Regional College and Inspiring Beauty.

Courses undertaken are Building and Construction, Engineering, Early Childhood, IT, Plumbing, Electrotechnology, Community Services, Hospitality, Sport and Recreation, Dance, Fashion, Animal Studies, Automotive, Creative Industries, Enabling Technologies, and Workplace Skills.

We applaud all our VET students from Years 10, 11 and 12 that are stepping out of their comfort zone and trying independent study in an adult learning environment.

We are proud of all of you.
