Assistant Principal's Message

Mrs Rochelle Borg

Dear Parent and Carers

Over the past few weeks, it has been wonderful to see all of our teachers and students working collaboratively to develop what it means to be a learner at St Margaret Mary’s. We are trying very hard to set your children (our students) up for success.

Our current Kindergarten students will finish their High School education in October 2036. We are ensuring our students have the key skills and competencies to undertake any work challenge in 2036 when they start their tertiary education or enter the workforce.

They need to be creative problem solvers, collaborative and articulate team members that can think critically about the issues being presented. This is the world we are living in. This is not the future; this is what is happening right now.

Our students, along with their teachers, use a range of diverse tools to immerse themselves in all learning opportunities to achieve their goals.

Being curious and open to new ideas, preserving with challenging tasks, demonstrating a ‘have-a-go’ attitude, learning from mistakes, asking clarifying questions and always doing your very best are just a few of the learning dispositions our community is focusing on each and every day as they strive to achieve their reading, writing and maths learning goals.

NAPLAN:

NAPLAN will take place in Weeks 7 and 8 starting the 13th March.

Numeracy Assessment

NAPLAN is just one part of our learning assessment program. The tests assess literacy and numeracy skills your child is already learning at school. In the weeks leading up to the assessments, students in Year 3 and 5 will undertake activities to help students become familiar with the format and functionality of the online tests. More information for parents regarding NAPLAN will be sent over the coming weeks.

High School Visits:

Starting next week our Year Five & Year Six students will receive a visit from the principal from St Pauls College, Greystanes and Cerdon College, Merrylands. These visits are to promote our feeder high schools in the diocese and for students to ask questions to support their transition to high school next year.

Meet the Teacher Meetings:

In Week 6 (4th-8th March), St Margaret Mary’s will be hosting an opportunity for parents and carers to connect with their child’s teacher. This term our parent teacher meetings are designed to ensure you have the opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher and share important information about your child, in order to support their learning.

Bookings via the Compass Parent Portal App are now open. Our teachers and staff are looking forward to meeting you and hearing all about your child. We ask parents to kindly complete the “What I want to tell you about my child’ form and return this to your child’s teacher by Wednesday 28 February 2024.

We look forward to connecting with you over the coming weeks.

God Bless
