PHYSICAL EDUCATION

We are so pleased with the success of our Athletics Day! It was so great to see all the practise we completed in P.E sessions make a difference with all students participating in events with enthusiasm and confidence.

Our middle and senior students have started exploring their creativity by designing their own tag games to be played by their classmates. Students have the responsibility of setting up the area, distributing equipment and explaining the rules.

Our junior students are extending on their throwing skills that were being developed during our Athletics unit and will be focusing on their catching skills. These skillwill be practised with different sized balls and small sided games which also encourage fair play and teamwork.

LOTE - AUSLAN

Our Prep and Junior students have been going through signing their colours. They are able to identify their own house colour as well as their personal favourite colours. We will begin to extend this knowledge to signing about the colour of their eyes, hair and things around the room.

Students in Grade 3 - 6 are becoming more and more confident each week with their ‘who, what, where, when?’ knowledge. They have been developing their knowledge to ask questions such as ‘what is my favourite colour?’, ‘when is my birthday?’, ‘who is my brother/sister?’ and ‘where do I live?’. Some students are choosing to extend themselves to attempt to answer the questions which is fantastic to see.

STEAM

Junior school have been learning about different types of weather and structures to protect us from the weather. Our preps have talked about how we dress for the weather and discussed weather symbols, including Indigenous symbols for weather types and seasons. We also created our very own weather symbols!

In Grade 1/2, we have explored different materials and shapes to help us design a house sculpture. We described the properties of different materials and some students extended their learning by considering the purpose of materials that were used to make Indigenous objects. We had hands-on fun to learn about shapes used for structures by creating 3D shapes out of matchsticks and playdough! The students did a fantastic job.

Grade 3/4 students are working on a real-world challenge created by Zoos Victoria. They are developing ideas for enrichment activities for Lions, Penguins, Dingos and Echidnas at Victorian Zoos. Students have been researching existing enrichment activities, observing their animals online and creating collaborative ideas for their product. Their ideas are outstanding so far!

In the 5/6 classes, the students finished their microorganism and Yayoi Kusama inspired paintings. We have now started to look into the importance of biodiversity. They collected data on the plants in our local school environment and categorised their sightings. Students also looked for evidence of animal life such as tracks, nests and droppings.

Our Grade 1/2 students were so proud of their 3D shapes! See more photos of our student work below.
