Year 5/6 Report
Dear parents and carers of 5/6 students,
We hope this newsletter finds you well. As we approach the end of Term One, we're excited to share some highlights from our recent 5/6 learning.
As we near the conclusion of our literary journey with our class text "Can You See Me," we are filled with pride and excitement for the insightful discussions and emotional connections our students have forged with this captivating text. Through the lens of this powerful story, our students have explored themes of identity, acceptance, and resilience, gaining valuable insights into themselves and the world around them. We're immensely proud of their growth and engagement throughout this journey and have been able to answer questions, summarise sections of the book and have robust discussions about ASD and other concepts within the text. Thank you for your continued support in fostering a love for literature and learning in our students.
In our ongoing inquiry journey, we've embarked on a profound exploration of the documentary "The Final Quarter," centred around the experiences of the legendary Australian Rules footballer, Adam Goodes. Through this thought-provoking documentary, we delved into crucial conversations about racism, identity, and resilience. This exploration was not just about sports; it was a lesson in empathy, respect, and the importance of using one's voice to drive positive change. The students gained a deeper understanding of Indigenous culture and history, and they were inspired to embrace diversity and promote inclusivity within our school community and beyond.
Over the last couple of weeks of the term, all 5/6 students will be ‘Taking Action’ in their inquiry lessons where they will choose an area of interest to promote inclusion and equality in everyday lives. Some areas of interest may include women in sports, drama and musical theatre, disability inclusion in our local environment and schools, racial diversity and pay gaps. Students will develop a way to promote their message in creative ways such as through slam poems, short films, advertisements, billboard posters, animation or stop motion clips, etc.
As always, we're immensely grateful for your ongoing support and partnership in your child's educational journey. If you have any questions or would like to discuss any of the topics mentioned in this newsletter further, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
Warm regards,
The 5/6 team.
