Year 3/4 Report

The 3/4 students have had a really successful term and we have learnt so much. Here are some of the amazing things we have been learning about this term.

Literacy

As we approach the end of our study of Roald Dahl's beloved novel, "Matilda," students will engage in a final writing piece focusing on the formidable character of Miss Trunchbull. Drawing from their understanding of the text, students will craft a persuasive piece aimed at exploring and analysing Miss Trunchbull's personality, actions, and impact within the story. To persuade their audience, students will apply a variety of persuasive strategies introduced throughout the term, including rhetorical questions, emotive language, high modality words and inclusive language.

Numeracy

Throughout this term, the 3/4 students have dived into addition and subtraction in Numeracy. Students have explored a range of strategies aimed at enhancing their ability to add and subtract numbers effectively. Some of the strategies they've encountered include: leveraging their knowledge of doubles facts and tens facts, partitioning numbers into place value components, applying the concept of part-part-whole, utilising a number line to bridge to the nearest 10 and organizing equations into vertical algorithms. Prior to solving all problems, students use estimating in order to check the reasonableness of their answers.

Inquiry showcase

Throughout our Inquiry sessions, we've delved into the concept of inclusiveness by exploring empathy, perspective, identity and values. This topic has sparked our interest as we've immersed ourselves in stories of children overcoming various challenges in their daily lives. To showcase our understanding, students have brainstormed creative ways to foster a more inclusive environment for these individuals. In an upcoming presentation of their choice, they'll share their unique and supportive ideas with their classmates, emphasising the importance of empathy and understanding in our community.

NAPLAN

The Year 3 students have been working hard to prepare for NAPLAN, demonstrating perseverance and commitment to performing their best. Well done to all the Year 3 students.

Wishing everyone a lovely holiday break and looking forward to learning in Term 2.
