Principal's Report

Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/ Carers,

It is great to be back at work! I would like to thank Miss Fletcher for leading and managing the school during my sick leave - she did a fantastic job! Miss Fletcher informed me that she was thankful for all the support she received from her colleagues, the students and our families.

MEET THE TEACHER AFTERNOON

Thank you to the families who attended our Meet the Teacher days last week. I am sure you found out lots more about the programs we have at school as well as having a brief chat with your child’s teacher—this is an important start to the new year and allows us to share with our community how the children are known, valued and cared for (we hope the lollies were yummy too!)  A big thank you to the teachers as well for staying back for the session.

INDUCTION ASSEMBLY

This Friday we have a special Assembly where we induct our School Leaders, SRC, House Captains, Vice Captains and Library Monitors for 2024. These roles are very important, we acknowledge this by inviting parents to attend.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

We expect all children to attend school every day. If your child is away, you will receive an email asking you for an explanation for the absence. You can easily respond to the emails OR you can call the school on (02) 9724 3470 OR fill in one of the ‘student absence notification’ notes that the teacher will give your child when they return to school. Frankie’s sign summarises school attendance perfectly;

NAPLAN ONLINE

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will commence for all students in Years 3 and 5 in all government and non-government schools commencing in Week 7. I have included the organisation of the assessments in this edition of the newsletter. There is a Public Demonstration site that can be accessed from home. We encourage you to allow your child/ren to practice at home so that they are confident in using the online functions and are familiar with the question types.  I thank Ms Batar, Mrs Rosic and the NAPLAN team for their organisation.

Remember to get a good night’s sleep, wake up and eat a yummy breakfast and be on time to ensure you are ready for the NAPLAN assessment!

BIKE VISITS WITH MR PITT

Although I am not up to riding my bike yet, it was great to be back in classrooms talking to children about their learning. This week I visited 3 Campbell and 6 Little.

3 CAMPBELL – On Friday I visited 3S during a writing lesson. The focus was persusavie writing where the children were writing about why the reader should play the sport they had recommended. I had a great time reading their work and discussing the planning sheet with the children. A great lesson boys and girls!

6 LITTLE – On Friday morning I visited 6L during a mathematics lesson. The lesson is a warm-up lesson where students are given various questions related to  number work. Some of the questions ensured there were plenty of sweaty brains work occuring. Mr Ly was very good at explaining steps and strategies for the children to use. Long division was my favourite! I had a great time visiting – thanks 6L!

 Check out some of the photos in this edition of the newsletter.

STRAIGHT SIGHT EYE TESTING

Over the last two weeks, students at Fairvale Public School were given the opportunity to participate in a free Comprehensive Vision assessment with Eye care professionals from ‘Straight Sight’.  There are 62 students who will be needing glasses based on their vision, eye posture and symptoms and they will all have the opportunity to choose their FREE frames at school in the coming weeks. All parents will receive a report with the results of their child's Vision Assessment soon. We thank Mrs Callaway for organising wonderful service.
