Every Day Counts

The Importance of School Attendance at Saltwater P-9 College

At Saltwater P-9 College, we believe that regular school attendance is essential for every student’s academic and social development. Attending school daily ensures that children build strong foundations in learning, develop positive relationships, and maintain a consistent routine that supports their overall success.

Please take a moment to look over our Attendance Pack, which will go over ways we can support your child's successful time here at school.

Why Attendance Matters

Every day at school counts! Research shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve higher academic results and develop important life skills such as resilience and responsibility. Frequent absences can lead to gaps in learning, making it harder for students to keep up with their peers.

Common Reasons for Absence and How to Avoid Them

We understand that sometimes students may be unwell or unable to attend school due to unforeseen circumstances. However, some absences can be planned for and minimised. Common reasons for absence include:

  • Illness – If your child is unwell, rest and recovery are important. However, encouraging good hygiene practices and regular health check-ups can help prevent frequent sickness.

  • Family holidays – Where possible, we encourage families to plan vacations during school holidays to avoid disruption to learning.

  • Appointments – Where feasible, schedule medical or other essential appointments outside of school hours to maximise attendance.

Reporting an Absence via Xuno

If your child needs to be absent, it is important to notify the school as soon as possible. Additionally, where absences can be planned in advance, such as family holidays or appointments, please inform your child’s teacher and the school beforehand so necessary arrangements can be made.

Saltwater P-9 College uses the Xuno app for easy and efficient absence reporting. Here’s how you can log an absence:

  1. Open the Xuno app on your smartphone or tablet.

  2. Log in using your parent credentials.

  3. Navigate to the ‘Attendance’ section.

  4. Select ‘Report an Absence’ and enter the required details, including the reason for absence and expected return date.

  5. Submit the absence notification to inform the school promptly.

If you experience any difficulties using Xuno, please contact the school office for assistance.

Let’s Work Together

We encourage all families to prioritise attendance and work together to ensure students make the most of their educational journey. If your child is facing challenges that impact their attendance, please reach out to the school so we can offer support and guidance (03 8366 7700).
