Student Leadership

Dear Saltwater,

Welcome to a new school year at Saltwater College!

We are excited to embark on another year of learning, growth, and leadership. At Saltwater College, we believe in fostering a strong sense of community where every student feels valued, heard, and empowered. A key part of this commitment is providing meaningful leadership opportunities that allow students to develop confidence, responsibility, and teamwork skills while making a real impact on school life.

Empowering Student Leadership at Saltwater College

Our leadership program aligns with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, which encourages students to develop the attributes of the IB Learner Profile. Through their leadership roles, students embody qualities such as being principled, communicators, and caring, fostering a culture of respect, responsibility, and collaboration. These attributes not only shape them as effective leaders within our school but also prepare them to be global citizens who contribute positively to their communities beyond Saltwater College.

We are committed to nurturing leadership skills, student agency, and responsibility through a wide range of leadership opportunities. From the early primary years through to secondary school, students are encouraged to step up, share their voices, and play an active role in shaping their school community.

Leadership Opportunities

Here are some of the leadership opportunities available to our students throughout the year.

🔹 House Captains (Year 6) – Leading their house in team events and fostering school spirit.

🔹 Class Captains (Years 1-6) – Representing peers and ensuring student voices are heard.

🔹 Junior School Council (JSC, Years 1-6) – Elected representatives who meet regularly to discuss and act on school initiatives.

🔹 Student Voice Teams – Contributing to planning, feedback, and school-wide improvements.

🔹 Wellbeing Leaders (Years 5-6) – Supporting peer mediation, student wellbeing, and fostering positive relationships.

🔹 Environmental Leaders (Prep-Year 6) – Promoting sustainability and caring for the school environment.

Fostering Leadership and Responsibility

Our student leadership program is designed to give students meaningful opportunities to make a difference. By taking on leadership roles, students develop essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. These experiences help them build confidence and a sense of pride in representing their peers.

We believe that student leadership is more than just holding a title—it’s about fostering a culture of respect, inclusion, and collaboration. Through regular meetings, school-wide initiatives, and participation in decision-making, our student leaders help create a positive and supportive learning environment for everyone.

A Student-Led Future

We know that when students are given a voice, they thrive. By encouraging leadership from an early age, we are preparing our students to be confident, engaged citizens who contribute not only to our school community but to the world beyond.

We look forward to seeing the amazing work of our student leaders throughout the year!
