Year Two
Dear Year 2 Families,
Welcome back to all of our existing Saltwater community and we wish a warm welcome to everyone who is new to our Saltwater family.
We hope that everyone had a wonderful break and are looking forward to the year ahead.
Meet the Year 2 Team
We would like to take the time to introduce you to the year 2 team.
Learding the Year Two's this year we have:
Assistant Principal - Matt Hart
Leading Teacher - Sarah Mason
Matt and Sarah have both been part of the Saltwater community for many years. Matt is also the Assistant Principal leading Literacy within the school, while Sarah is the Leading Teacher within IB and also 2B classroom teacher.
The year 2 cohort consists of 10 classes this year.

As we settle into the new school year, we are establishing norms, routines and understanding expectations. Within the first 4 weeks we complete the 'First 20 Days of Learning' through reading, writing, maths, wellbeing and IB. To begin the year we have explored what lessons look like and what we need to be good learners. We have explored the Zones of Regulation and having a Growth Mindset. Developing our classroom norms and expectations together enables us to look after our classroom environments including our classroom library and understand our roles as learners.
Reading
In reading we have been exploring what a reading lesson looks like, setting up our classroom libraries and beginning our class novel. It has been wonderful seeing the students engaged in independent reading and sharing their thinking and wonderings about what they are reading.
Writing
During our writing lessons we have explored our workbook expectations and understanding what good writers do. We inquired into what it means to be reflective and the importance of always trying our best as we ensure our sentences include the correct features and we focus on our handwriting.
Maths
As mathematicians we have explored our classroom environment and the importance of using manipulatives to support us with our learning. We are learning how to set up our workbooks so that we can effectively show our learning.

Reminders
Hats are to be worn from August to April. Please ensure you put sunscreen on before coming to school.
If you have not brought in your stationery pack, please do so are your earliest convenience.
