Principal Team Editorial

Mooroop is Wurundjeri Wo-wurrung word meaning ‘spirit.’ Recently, our Koorie Education Support Officer, Lea Jones, held a Yarning Circle with our Koorie students to listen to their voices and hear their thoughts on the naming of our new basketball and performing arts facility. Guided by local elder, Aunty Doreen, our students chose the name Mooroop, which they believe reflects the spirit of what it means to be a Wantirna College student. We hope that, in years to come, the Mooroop Centre will be a meeting place that cultivates curiosity, ideas and lively gatherings, giving people in our community an opportunity to connect and gather.

Today, we strengthened our relationship with community through the signing of a licence agreement with Nunawading Basketball Association giving them exclusive after hours access to our brand new, competition-grade facility. We believe this agreement will benefit both the school and our local community, ensuring the Mooroop Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that our students will thrive in.

VCE Results

Congratulations to all our Year 12 students who completed exams and received their results last week. We had 12 students who achieved an ATAR in the top 10% of the state, which is a phenomenal effort.  Congratulations to Nathan Krause who received a near perfect score of 99.25. Overall, we maintained our average study score which is a credit to the outstanding efforts of our students. Yesterday, we invited our graduating class back for a morning tea to present them with their VCE certificates and touch base with them regarding their plans for next year. Whether they pursue a pathway into the workforce, TAFE, University or other, we are committed to supporting them to find successful pathways, and we encourage them stay connected with us in years to come.

As Term 4 draws to a close, I’d like to thank the entire school community for your support of Wantirna College. With close to 1500 students and almost 200 staff, we are a big school with a breadth of opportunities both in and out of the classroom. We are committed to ensuring all students receive the quality education they deserve, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with parents and students to achieve this next year.

Enjoy a safe and happy holiday.
