Top Screens 2025 Celebration

Every year in Year 12 Media, part of the course requires students to develop a practical piece in a media form of their choice. Film is one of the most popular forms students select, and when it comes to submitting the best works to the VCE Season of Excellence, it is the most competitive across the state.

I am proud to announce that Year 12 student, Jackson Bertram’s short film ‘The Culling’ was successful in being selected as part of Top Screens 2025, VCE Season of Excellence. This year there were over 400 film/animation submissions, resulting in a short list of 38.

Jackson was 1 of 13 film/animation students to be selected for the exhibition. This is an outstanding achievement in a competitive and talented field. Jackson’s film will be showcased all year as part of the Top Designs Exhibit at Melbourne Museum and be part of the Top Screen Exhibition at ACMI in Federation Square. 2025 VCE Media students will have the opportunity to view the best works from across the state as part of an excursion.

Students can view Jackson’s film and folio via the Art and Technology showcase, accessible via Compass. All audiences can view Jackson’s work via YouTube below (please note there are mature themes, including violence).

Logline: "The Culling" is a sci-fi/thriller short narrative film that explores social class and hierarchy as individuals are forced to navigate a dystopian game of survival.

Congratulations to Jackson on this amazing achievement and we look forward to celebrating at the premiere of the Top Screens exhibit in 2025.
