Junior Systems has been an absolute blast this year, seeing our students develop their knowledge around solution based problem solving as well as learning technical skills like Soldering.
This term our Year 7’s worked hard on their Make a Difference project, using the Sustainable Development Goals, to create a product that would solve a real world problem. We saw Medication dispensers for sports injuries, rubbish collectors, automatic seed planters to battle against deforestation and much more. We were very impressed with their ideas and their work output.
In Year 8, our students worked hard on their soldering skills and thought long and hard about their character that would have 2 LED’s embedded in it. The students spent many hours in class perfecting their soldering techniques with only a few slip ups or minor burns along the way. Their patience did not go unnoticed during this.

This term, our Year 7A students have had an exciting journey exploring art techniques in both two and three dimensions! Building on from the fundamentals of art we learnt in term 3, students expanded their creativity and made their own masterpieces inspired by a variety of Art Movements.
Along the way, we have discovered the art elements—line, shape, form, texture, space, value, and colour—and how these elements come together to form artistic compositions with emotion and mood. Students also explored art principles such as balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and time, learning how to apply them to create effective artwork.
One of our main learning experiences was creating self-portraits in the style of Picasso. The students had an enjoyable time deconstructing and abstracting their own faces and features to include some visually engaging storytelling of their personalities. Check out a few below and see if you can match the 7A student with the portrait!
Throughout the semester, students also worked with a wide variety of materials, including paint, wire, oil pastels, colour pencils, and paper. They experimented with different mediums and techniques, building their skills in both 2D and 3D artworks. We had heaps of fun exploring how line could be used to create 3D wire sculptures and discovered how to apply form, light and shadow with the possibilities of paper sculptures and origami.
The highlight of the semester was the chance for students to uncover their creative potential and refine their art techniques. The classroom was buzzing with inspiration as students worked together to create their stunning pieces.
Overall, this semester has been filled with lots of fun and learning. It has been wonderful to see our Year 7 artists grow and develop, and we can't wait to see what they'll create next in their years to come at Wantirna College!

Wowza! What a year it has been in the Art & Technology learning area! Our incredibly talented students have truly wowed us with their skills, creativity, and innovation. Our wonderful community has been right behind us, with friends, families, and staff stepping up to participate in the Artisan of the Month and bake up some delicious treats for the Showcase Bake Off. From Year 7 to Year 12, we’ve been treated to a dazzling array of works, proudly showcased at the VCE Art & Technology ‘Depths of Design’ exhibition and the Wantirna College Awards night.
A huge shout-out to our amazing Captains and Volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, creating designs, posters, awards, and props for the showcase. Your dedication is what keeps this whole operation running smoothly!
We’re so excited for next year and can’t wait to see the incredible things you’ll create. Keep up the fantastic work, everyone!
