Tackling Bullying

Student Voices Lead the Way in Tackling Bullying

Over the past term, Wantirna College has held a series of student forums to explore the issue of bullying within our school community. Students from Years 7 to 11 came together to share their thoughts, experiences, and ideas on how we can make our school a safer and more inclusive environment. From discussing the importance of peer support to brainstorming practical strategies to address bullying in and outside the classroom, these forums showcased the power of student voices in shaping meaningful change. A recurring theme was the need for greater visibility of anti-bullying initiatives and stronger support for students impacted by bullying.

The ideas shared during these forums have inspired a range of actions we hope to implement next year. These include launching termly campaigns to raise awareness, running workshops on bystander intervention, and creating opportunities for students to lead anti-bullying initiatives. We will also explore ways to strengthen the connections between staff and students, ensuring that everyone feels supported and empowered to contribute to a positive school culture.

We are grateful to the students who participated in these forums for their honesty, creativity, and commitment to making Wantirna College a better place for all. Together, with their input and the support of our broader school community, we can take significant steps toward eliminating bullying and fostering a culture of respect and inclusion. Stay tuned for updates as we work together to achieve these goals!
