ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

YEAR 5 ART EXCURSION

On Monday, Year 5 students walked to the local Currawong Bush Park to participate in an art excursion. There, they did some ‘en plein air’ landscape painting, which means to paint in the open air.

This experience follows on from an inquiry into historical figures in art, focusing on the 4 Australian artists that our houses are named after:

  • Arthur Boyd (Blue house)
  • Frederick McCubbin (Green house)
  • Tom Roberts (Red house), and
  • Arthur Streeton (Yellow house).

These 4 artists are famous for their landscape paintings and frequently painted in the local area. Students have conducted research activities about the artists and explored the challenges and techniques used to paint outdoors.

We were lucky enough to encounter a very friendly Kookaburra who listened closely to our tuning in, other gorgeous native birdlife, and a large mob of wild kangaroos who were sunbaking where we were painting. Some of these featured in students’ artworks.

Students enjoyed walking in the sunshine to their serene destination and the opportunity to paint outdoors with their friends. Perhaps some Year 5’s might like to take their families to do some en plein air painting in the local area too!

YEAR 3 SCIENCE INCURSION

In Year 3, we have been busily investigating our unit of inquiry, How the World Works. We turned our classrooms into science labs and used the scientific method to work in teams and conquer various science experiments, uncovering the magic of materials and reactions. Alongside our science skills, we also used our business skills to create our own bath bombs, customising the ideal colours, scents and logos.

We had a great day learning about science and using a range of different skills, including critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, curiosity and innovation. We can’t wait to see what else we explore in the classroom!

STUDENT  ACHIEVEMENT

LACHIE S | YEAR 5

Last week, Lachie S from Year 5 competed for Victoria in the National Karate Championships held in Perth and came in fourth place!  He has been training very hard on weeknights and on the weekend for the past 6 months and he is one of the youngest in the group. Lachie was chosen due to his dedication and outstanding ability and he is aiming for the Brisbane Olympics in 2032.

Well Done to Lachie for this amazing achievement. We are so proud of you!

FATHER’S/ SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY STALL AND BREAKFAST

ENVIRONMENTAL MESSAGE

Congratulations to 3MM for being this week’s trash free Tuesday winner and having 2 pieces of trash! They will receive ’Ernie the Earth’ our environmental mascot. Overall as a school we got 206 pieces of trash. Keep up the great work. We are excited to see a reduced amount of trash around the school! Last week the Environmental leaders planted aboriginal plants at the year 5 portables. Next term we are planning to implement composting in every classroom in Milgate to help create a more sustainable environment for our school.
