Health and Safety In and Around Our school

At Glen Waverley Primary School, we pride ourselves in ensuring that staff, students and the wider community are safe whilst on the school grounds.

You may have noticed some of the steps we have taken over the last few years to continue to do so:

  • Making a clear designated space for students to wait safely at the turning circle.
  • The yellow strips at the edges of the steps, so the edge is easily identifiable.
  • New asphalting of various play areas across the school to eliminate trip hazards.
  • Safety pads around the poles throughout the school.
  • The installation of bollards near the gymnasium.
  • Our most recent action was to install bollards in the school driveway to prevent traffic entering the school grounds at certain times.

We also provide:

  • Regular inspections around the school such as ensuring trees and their branches are safe.
  • Check the play equipment regularly to look for signs of damage/wear and tear and maintain the soft fall around the equipment for the safety of the students.
  • Also, at least once a term we practise a safety drill in the form of a lock down or an evacuation.  This is to ensure that in the unfortunate occurrence of an emergency of some kind it will be second nature for everyone to know what to do to remain safe.

We will continue to work at keeping everyone safe but also, we ask if you, if while making your way around the school you identify anything that you feel might be a hazard to let us

know by coming into the main office or emailing the school at glen.waverley.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

Thank you for your anticipated understanding and support as we work together to continue to remain safe.
