Rotary Club of Glen Waverley Literary Competition 2023

For the past 14 years, the Rotary Club of Glen Waverley has conducted their annual literary competition among local schools. This competition aims to encourage creativity and originality of ideas of students in exercising their literary skills. The aim is to engender enthusiasm for self-expression through writing.

Schools in this year’s competition:

  • Glen Waverley Primary School
  • Glen Waverley South Primary School
  • Camelot Rise Primary School
  • Glendal Primary School
  • Highvale Primary School
  • Mount View Primary School
  • St. Leonard’s Primary School
  • St. Christopher’s Primary School
  • Wesley College

This year our school chose to enter poetry items as part of the learning in English Innovation, facilitated by Mrs Belinda Gunstone. The Rotary Club provided suggestions for themes, with the students electing to write through the theme ‘My Dream World’.

Our English Innovators wrote pieces that were deep, vivid and emotive. We are proud of all the students and their authorship skills, utilising strategies from our whole school approach to writing, VOICES to develop their poems.

Congratulations to the below students who placed in the competition with their submitted entries.

– Saheli from 3C

- Kimaya from 4A

On Monday the 28th of August, Bev from the Rotary Club of Glen Waverley Presented Saheli and Kimaya with their awards and prizes. Saheli won a $40 Robinson’s Bookshop gift voucher and Kimaya won a $20 Robinson’s Bookshop gift voucher, in addition to a certificate for themselves and for our school. It was wonderful to see their family in attendance to celebrate their achievements.

We look forward to further opportunities to enter the outstanding learning our students do here at Glen Waverley Primary School daily, in future competitions. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Glen Waverley for supporting our students and acknowledging the great authorship the students at our school produce.
