Year 5 Report

Well done on another successful term! We have had a busy term with fun events such as Camp, Book Week, Book Festival and Sports Day. The students have worked hard and shown great growth both academically and socially. The Grade 5 team are very proud!

Literacy

This term in Writing, students created information reports on topics that interested them. They developed their own research questions, conducted their own research and included non fiction features such as glossaries, images and captions. Students were able to publish their finished reports in a variety of different ways including Microsoft Word, Book Creator and as a Triarama.

 

Students have supported their work on Information Reports by reading a variety of non fiction texts such as newspaper reports and encyclopedias.

 

Maths

We began the term looking at Multiplication and Division. We had a big focus on learning our times tables and the students hard work is starting to pay off as more and more of them are achieving the goal of knowing all their facts up to 10X10. We are ending the term looking at 3D shape, angles and money.

 

Inquiry

This term in Inquiry, students have looked at different types of government and focused heavily on our government, what it looks like, how it works and why. Students completed a research project about government and presented the project to the grade.

 

Reminders

  • School starts at 8.50. We have a high number of students arriving to school late each day. Ten minutes late each day is 50 minutes of missed learning a week. That's an entire session of learning!
  • Homework. The expectation is that all students read for half an hour each night and record this in their diaries for the teacher to monitor. Students who have been reading have shown great growth in all areas of their learning. Half an hour each night really does make a difference!
  • KABOOM. We are having an Olympic themed KABOOM Day on the last day of Term 3. The day will be packed full of fun activities with students working in teams with students from all other year levels. Don't miss the fun!
  • Last Day of Term 3. Last day of term 3 will be Friday 15th September.
  • First Day of Term 4. First day of term 4 will be Monday 2nd October.
