Year 4 Report

We are coming to the end of another successful term in Grade 4! The Grade 4 teachers are incredibly proud of our students effort so far this year. We had so much fun celebrating Footy day, Science Week and Book Week! The students looked fantastic in their character costumes.  The students also had an awesome camp participating in lots of fun activities at CYC Adanac. 

 

 

Inquiry

In Inquiry this term, students will learn to understand what life was like for Aboriginal and all Torres Strait Island People before the arrival of Europeans. They will research the connection between Aboriginals and Torres Islander people and the environment, including land management and practices culture and identities. Students will also explore the importance of Totems in the lives of the Aboriginals and Torres Islander Peoples. 

Literacy

In Literacy this term, students explored the text structure and language features of Dreamtime Stories. They analysed character traits, settings, conflicts, solutions and meaning/moral. Students were exposed to a range of Dreamtime texts, and had many opportunities to write their own. They followed the 5 stages of writing and explored the many different 

 

 

Numeracy

In Maths this term, students have developing their place value skills. Students used a variety of problem-solving skills to identify and continue number patterns. Students also modelled, expanded, compared and renamed numbers. This term, students made, represented and identified the value of a number using a range of materials or manipulatives. This term we also focused on areas such a measurement, money, angles and mapping. Our trip to the zoo helped support this.

 

 

Social and Emotional Learning

In SEL this term, students explored emotional responses in a range of social situations. They wokred hard to recognise their personal strengths and identify skills they would like to develop. They discovered strategies for coping with difficult situations and learnt ways to persist with tasks when faced with a challenge. Students learnt how to adapt their approach when first attempts are not successful and will continue to develop their skills of patience, responsibility and self-control.
