Year 1/2 Report

Start of Term 3, 2023

Welcome to our end of Term 3 newsletter. This term has been jam-packed with many fun learning experiences for all!

Numeracy

During Term 3 in Numeracy, students have been focusing on using our addition and subtraction strategies learnt during term 2 to participate in a range of RekenRek activities. Our weekly Monday lessons that focused on counting and place value helped students achieve success during these RekenRek activities. Through these RekenRek lessons students learnt about how the different parts of a math equation make up the whole. Students also enjoyed playing a mixture of math games on manga high and our new online math program called number gym.

Literacy

During Term 3 in Literacy, students developed an ability to understand and use the comprehension strategy of inferring while exploring a range of Indigenous Australian dreamtime stories. They learnt to identify the features of the dreamtime stories as well. Students were able to identify characters' points of view and their arguments in fictional stories. They were also able to identify the different elements of poetry. During writing lessons students then wrote their own dreamtime stories, persuasive writing pieces and poems, following the 5 stages of the writing process.

Inquiry

During Term Three in Inquiry, students explored the unit "Celebrating differences." Students explored a range of different cultural celebrations, identifying the different ways and reasons these cultures celebrate their special events. A special highlight of the unit was learning about the Indigenous Australian culture and NAIDOC week, where we had an Indigenous Australian elder speak to the students about his culture.

The Stay late/sleep over

The stay late was a great highlight for the term. Students had a blast, participating in a range of sporty activities, making honey joys, parachute game, eating pizza for dinner, dancing at our fun disco, going on a torch lit night walk and getting to watch a movie with popcorn.
