PalMrs Borg:
During Term Three in Visual Arts, students have been busy finalising their artwork pieces to be displayed at the Art Show Extravaganza (happening on the 26th of October).
Year Six students have been working hard to complete their instrument mosaics. They have taken time and care, working in small groups, to strategically place tile pieces and gems to achieve a maximum visual effect! The next step will be the grouting to fill in all the background spaces and then they will be officially completed.
Year Five students have been following a process in completing their Kimmy Cantrell inspired clay masks. This term, students were busy moulding and sculpting their masks with clay and being very precise to follow their original plans as accurately as possible. The masks required time to air dry and then be fired using a Kiln in the Art Room, so as to set the terracotta clay to avoid it crumbling. Once this process is completed, students will be ready to paint their masks, which is the final step in this process.
Year Four students have been busy completing their Indigenous dot paintings (which were inspired by Dreamtime stories students had previously written in class). Using only a que tip and small dots, this artwork has been intricate and required lots of patience. However, it was great to see students demonstrating persistence and achieving excellent results with their completed artwork.
Year Three students completed their Henri Matisse papier mache eggs. After cutting various shapes using coloured paper, they had begun the process of gluing the paper onto a balloon, using PVA glue. This turned out to be a much more challenging task than we'd first anticipated because the balloons kept falling over and popping! However, with determination and the will to keep trying, students achieved great success with this artwork in the end.

During term three, students in grades One and Two worked in clay to complete their Fantastical creatures. Furthermore, students in grades One and Two have been learning and experimenting with Complementary and Harmonious colours. Each tudents completed paintings with either complementary or harmonious hues.
Foundation students continued experimenting with forms of printing. The most recent was inspired by the colours seen in the book, 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. Students experimented recreating the hungry caterpillar using their thumb prints and ink pads. They also focussed on the vibrant colours used in the book and enjoyed colouring activities based on this element.
Remember, there is still time to submit your artwork entries for the Art Competition as well! You need to be in it, to win it! Please bring your artwork entries to the Art Room (or Music Room to Ms Stacey or Ms Popovic if they are performance entries).
