Speech Pathology Week 2023

Last week, whilst students and teachers were celebrating Book Week, there was something else to be celebrated….Speech Pathology Week!

This is a week dedicated to highlighting the important role that speech pathologists play in assisting people with communication difficulties. As part of this, I wanted to share a little bit about Speech Pathologists and my role as a Speech Pathologist here at SoGS.

Speech Pathologists support communication and quality of life across the lifespan. Communication skills underpin the ability to read and write, get a job, enjoy family and friends, and access the school curriculum. The earlier that children at risk of language (and subsequently literacy) difficulties can be identified, the greater their chances of reaching their learning potential.

At SoGS, I work primarily within the lower primary school to support positive literacy and oral language outcomes, through working with small intervention groups and providing feedback and support to teachers, co-educators and leadership where needed. I also assist in the assessment and identification of areas of need for students across the whole school.

I love the work that I do as a speech pathologist and truly believe we as speech pathologists have the capacity to change lives for the better!
