Topic - Learning Habits:

It has now been one year since we launched our five new Learning Habits. These Learning Habits underpin all aspects of learning that takes place at our college, and all students are assessed against these habits for their Progress Report, published every 6-8 weeks via Compass.

The Learning Habits are:

Our school vision is centred around student empowerment, and we strongly believe that these new, research informed, learning habits will support all students to continuously develop as great learners and achieve their personal best here at HPSC.

Topic - Reports

Have you seen your child’s Semester One report?

Both progress and semester reports can be accessed via your Compass log in. Reports provide valuable information about your child’s academic growth and achievement in subjects studied. I strongly encourage you to check your child’s compass Learning Tasks regularly as you will find written feedback and achievement grades. Our agreed practice on how to give feedback to students is as follows.

Part 1. How are you going (Feedback) – minimum of one sentence outlining the students' achievement in that learning task.

Part 2. Where to next in your learning (Feed Up) - minimum of one sentence outlining the     next step(s) for the student in their learning. Part 3. How can you get there (Feed Forward) - minimum of one sentence explaining how the student can improve.

Furthermore, all schools are required to use a 5-point scale to demonstrate student achievement. Currently, at our college, we are still using an A – E grade scale with the following descriptors. However, we are continuing to review this as we moving towards more research informed developmental assessment.

AAccomplished within the assessed Standard
BBecoming  Accomplished within the assessed Standard
CCompetent within the assessed Standard
DDeveloping toward a Competent level
EEmerging skills
UGWork not submitted or incomplete
NANot assessed
A* TO E*Alternative common assessment task grades

As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the relevant House office on 8795 9400.

Kind Regards,

Paul Broecker
