Term 3  2023  Grade 5 & 6 Newsletter 

Grade 5 and 6 Students               

Throughout this semester, both Grade 5 and 6 students have been working on the same topic: buying food in a delicatessen.  

This unit of work has been sequential:

        - researching particular types of food you can purchase in a delicatessen

        - choosing deli foods as part of their shopping list

        - creating a unit price of the food by the kilogram 

        - calculating the price using a chosen weight in grams based on the unit price                            in Euro 

      - creating the script for a shopping list item while incorporating general                                        conversational language  with one other

        - acting out the scenario and practising lines

        - filming and creating a greenscreen video 

Some of the common conversational language:

Cosa ti piacerebbe?                                                              What would you like?

Posso avere duecento grammi di mozzarella per favore?   Can I have 200 grams of mozzarella please?

Vorrei duecento grammi di mozzarella per favore.  I would like 200 grams of mozzarella please?

Quant’e?                                                                              How much?

Si certo.                                                                              Yes certainly.

Nient’altro?                                                                          Nothing else?

Altro?                                                                                  Anything else?

Prior to performing, students read & practiced scripts  recording themselves using BEEP.  All grades have spent time  rehearsing their plays to film on Chromebooks.  Students will be filming next week or the week after with costumes and then applying it to Canva creating their personalised greenscreen delicatessen scenario.   

At this stage, all grade 6 students have been offered the opportunity to learn to cook a typical Italian meal, ie: Lasagna & biscotti al limone.  This food was delivered  to families in need.  I am so grateful to all those students who have volunteered their time to give to others.
