Grade Five
Just like that we have moved well into Semester Two. The Grade Five students began Term Three setting independent goals for the remainder of the year and reflected on time spent in Term One and Two. This jam packed term has offered up some extraordinary events and still has more to come. We have had students demonstrate their basketball skills at Hooptime, coding skills competing in Robocup, both whole school and district athletics. We have celebrated 100 days of school with our Prep buddies and thought the preps looked so cute in their ‘old people’ costumes. The Grade Fives also explored Science Week and Book Week this term.
We are very excited for the upcoming events this term like our safety swimming program, Fathers Day morning tea, Grandparents afternoon, Sports Colours day, Tristan Bancks author visit and Travel Expo just to name a few.
In English this term we explored the genre of procedure. We learnt how to make procedures more detailed and specific by using the writing process. The students have also been very excited to start Literature Circles reading groups this term and those students who trialled it last term have thrived being able to be mini experts within these groups. In preparation for our Book Week parades we have completed tasks relating to the book “My Strange Shrinking Parents” by Zeno Sworder. Creating crafts, exploring Australian Refugee stories and developing our own family trees.
In Maths we began the term with multiplication goals. Students have spent time working on their own individual level for multiplication goals. Students have also completed units on Transformations, using reflection, rotation and re-sizing of shapes. Our students are currently working on designing a playground for the Grade 5+6 students. This units involves measurement [length, width, perimeter, area, volume], money [including calculating GST], using scale and converting units of measurement.
We are looking forward to the remainder of the term and seeing what wonderful things the students learn and create!
