Assistant Principal's Report

Mental Health First Aid

Three staff members attended Bright last week to receive youth mental health first aid training.  During the training, staff were given strategies to address initial concerns about students' wellbeing, just as with medical first aid.  Posters have been made to advertise to the students who the trained staff are, including those who are already trained.  A total of four teachers are available to provide mental health first aid to students.  As a result, we have asked all employees whether they are interested in taking two additional mental health courses for our students.

In term 4 the Year 8 and Year 10 students will be undertaking the student sessions of Youth Mental Health First Aid.  Please access the video and the information about the sessions.

Attendance

School is better when your young person is here.  We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.

Students develop good habits by going to school every day – habits that are necessary to succeed after school, whether in the workplace or in further study.

Missing school can have a big impact on students academically and socially.

This year so far

Year 7 - all students are siting at or above 90% actioned attendance.

Year 8 - all students are sitting at or above 82% actioned attendance.

Year 9 - most students are sitting at or above 80% actioned attendance.

Year 10 - most students are sitting at or above 90% actioned attendance.

Year 11 - all students are sitting at or above 80% actioned attendance.

Year 12 - all students are sitting at or above 80% actioned attendance.

With some of our year levels, we have achieved our goal of less than 20 days away from school per year.  To address some of the other numbers in different year levels, we will be surveying some of the students to find out what needs to be improved.
