LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH WHILE YOU MAKE NEW FRIENDS

Are you too shy to talk to people because you cannot speak English very well? Well, you can improve your English because Killester College runs a ‘Conversational English Class for adults’ every Monday morning from 10.00am till 12.00pm during school term, for parents, family members and friends.  Classes are fun, where you are safe to try your new language skills in a friendly place. You will learn words that you may use every day while at the same time making new friends who will encourage you to talk in English.  We also talk about things that are happening in our community.

We would love you to join us to help improve your English and at the same time have lots of fun in the Family Learning Centre at Killester College. Please sign in at the office.

Queries can be directed to Loreto Cannon lcannon@killester.vic.edu.au . We hope to see you there.

Opportunity for young people in Greater Dandenong

City of Greater Dandenong celebrates rich diversity. Despite this, a report published by Victoria University examined experiences of racism and discrimination in the catchments of Greater Dandenong and Casey, highlighted three-out-of-five participants or their families had experienced racism in the previous 12 months, mainly at work, when shopping, or at school.

The 2023 Young Leaders Racism and Discrimination community project has been developed to further understand the experiences of local young people, 12-25 years, whose voices were largely not captured as part of this study. This will be achieved through a Youth Forum and Community Survey.

  • Krushnadevsinh (Kano) Ravalji – Kano is an advocate of diversity and multiculturalism, youth mentor and founder of Third Culture Australia.

Racism and Discrimination in Greater Dandenong Survey

The 2023 Young Leaders have developed a survey to further understand local young people’s (12 – 25 years) experiences of racism and discrimination and to learn what are the barriers to young people not reporting their experience. The survey also asks young people to consider trusted ways that would encourage them to seek support and to report. The findings from this survey will be collated into a report to assist Council’s Youth and Family Services to advocate for improved reporting pathways and support services for young people in our community.

Saver Plus Program

Saver Plus is a free financial education and matched savings program offered to lower-income families to help them budget and save for education costs. In the 10-month program, participants gain financial knowledge, learn healthy savings habits by saving $50 a month, and have their savings matched up to $500 to be used towards school costs such as uniforms, books, laptops, and extra-curricular activities such as sport or music. sports fees.

At Saver Plus, we pair participants with a savings coach while they budget and save over the next 10 months. Participants attend online Zoom workshops to learn tips, tricks, and information to grow their budgeting and savings skills.
