Exam Week
The season has turned outside, and the same within the school. Students have turned their thoughts and efforts to exam preparation, with Year 7-11 exams commencing next week. After-school library sessions have been fuller, highlighters and post-it notes are getting a workout. Staff, heads down, carry bundles of practice papers through the rain, and over fallen leaves. It is exam season. It is always comforting to see smart young people possessing renewed academic focus, because it shows that, for all of the talk about school and homework and exams being a drag, they do care and they care a lot. Their ambition is strong.
For those of us who have been through it all and remember the slight panic of late-night study sessions and time running out, we watch on with empathy and support, and not a small measure of pride in our young people who do still take it seriously, and really desire to do well. As teachers, we get very good at saying two things at once: “you can do this” and “you really should have started earlier.”
Ted Hunter Funeral Details and Arrangements
The details of the funeral for former student Ted Hunter have now been publicised. A memorial will be held next Tuesday, 9 June at 2:00 pm at the Warrnambool Racecourse. Given the place and great respect that Ted held within the College, many students and staff will rightly attend the service.
The schedule for exam week has been adjusted to allow an extra revision day on Tuesday next week, prior to exams, which now commence on Wednesday. Classes will run as normal for the morning on Tuesday, and there will be further exam preparation, study and optional sport sessions in the afternoon. Students at school will be supervised for the full day. Families of students attending the funeral are asked to submit an excusal via Toddle, as normal, for the absence.
The College sends our love and thoughts to Ted’s family as they navigate this incredibly difficult week.
