SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE SUPPORT UPDATE

At Ripponlea Primary School, we are committed to creating calm, safe and inclusive learning environments where every child can thrive. One of the ways we support this is through our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework and our Behaviour Expectation Matrices.
Our matrices clearly outline the behaviours and actions we expect from students in classrooms and across all learning spaces. They are built around our key values of Respect, Pride and Safety, which connect closely to our school vision to Care, Create and Connect.
Rather than assuming children automatically know what respectful, safe or responsible behaviour looks like, we teach these expectations explicitly, just like we teach reading, writing and mathematics. Teachers model behaviours, practise routines with students, provide reminders and revisit expectations regularly throughout the year.
For example, students learn what it means to:
- use appropriate voice levels,
- listen actively,
- follow staff instructions,
- include others,
- care for resources,
- regulate emotions,
- solve problems respectfully,
- take responsibility for their learning and actions,
- and move safely throughout the school.
These behaviours are broken down into clear, age-appropriate actions for both Foundation–Year 2 and Years 3–6 students, helping children understand exactly what success looks like in different settings.
Importantly, students are acknowledged and celebrated when they demonstrate these positive behaviours. Through encouragement, praise and our SWPBS acknowledgement systems, we reinforce the behaviours that help our community succeed together.
This proactive and consistent approach helps create calm classrooms, predictable routines and positive learning environments where students feel safe, connected and ready to learn.
