Hello from Grade 2J

Our term 2 has been chock-a-block with activities and learning. It feels like only yesterday that we started Jets Gym, and now we are in the last three weeks of term cooking and learning more. Here are some things we learning about:
Investigations
Some students have used trundles, stopwatches, and calculators to measure distance and time. Others have been hairdressers and waiters, chefs and managers. When students act like adults in differrent contexts, they extend their vocabulary and learn to act how they think responsible adults would act, which is the value of role-play in investigations:
Mathematics
We have had a real focus on number lines in the past few weeks. We have learnt to find the centre of a number line and use this to help us estimate, and that the same number can go on different number lines in different places:
Literacy
We continue to chip away at our InitiaLit program, learning new tricky words and spelling patterns, as well as practicing comprehension strategies such as visualising. We have also been singing songs to learn the types of words, such as our verb song (verbs, verbs are action words...) and our adjective song (adjectives tell what it's like, what it's like, what it's like, adjectives tell what it's like: short, tall, grumpy)
Cooking
We have started our cooking with Ms Laversha, who takes each grade for 4 weeks, once a year. This will continue every Thursday until the end of term. This comes after we made our own pizzas for our whole class celebration a few weeks ago, which we all enjoyed greatly:
