WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING (2 of 3)

YEAR 6 CAMP 2026
BY DARREN HORTON (YEAR 6 TEACHER & YEAR 5/6 COORDINATOR)
The Year 6 students excitedly arrived at school on Wednesday 27th May, ready to embark on a three-day adventure at Mill Valley Ranch in Tynong North. The excitement was evident as students gathered together in Mr Horton's classroom for announcements and prayer before boarding the bus.
Upon arriving at Mill Valley Ranch, we were greeted by rainy weather and the sight of another school enjoying their snack and games in the Town Square. The bus was quickly unloaded, and students made their way to the Basketball Court to discover which groups they had been placed in. Screams of delight and excitement echoed across the campsite as friends celebrated being together and looked forward to the activities ahead.
Our camp leader, Milly, welcomed everyone and led the students on a tour of the camp facilities. While the teachers attended a briefing meeting, students enjoyed a well-earned snack before launching into their first afternoon of activities.
The first day was filled with challenges and teamwork. Students participated in a variety of team games that encouraged cooperation, communication, and problem-solving. The Crate Climb tested courage and balance as students worked together to build and climb towering stacks of crates. Many students also challenged themselves on the ropes course, stepping outside their comfort zones and encouraging one another to persevere. As evening arrived, students enjoyed a fun-filled night of team games in the garage. Laughter and friendly competition helped strengthen friendships and create lasting memories.
Day two brought even more excitement. Students took part in an Amazing Race around the camp, where teamwork and quick thinking were essential. Horse riding gave many students the opportunity to develop confidence while connecting with the animals. Canoeing provided adventure on the water, while team initiative activities challenged groups to work together to overcome obstacles and achieve shared goals.
One of the highlights of camp was Cowboy Chapel, where students gathered to reflect, worship, and learn important lessons about faith, friendship, and supporting one another. Throughout the camp, students demonstrated kindness, encouragement, and resilience as they tackled new experiences together.
The evening concluded with a lively game of "Win It in a Minute," where students competed in a series of hilarious one-minute challenges. The room was filled with cheers, laughter, and plenty of memorable moments.
Another favourite activity was Capture the Flag, which saw students enthusiastically racing across the campgrounds, strategising with teammates, and displaying great sportsmanship.
Year 6 Camp 2026 was an incredible experience filled with adventure, friendship, personal growth, and fun. Students are to be commended for their positive attitudes, willingness to encourage one another, and the way they embraced every opportunity.
The memories made and friendships strengthened during these three days will undoubtedly remain with them for years to come as their last primary school camp.
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC SOIREE
BY HANNAH DENNY (MUSIC COORDINATOR)
In contrast to the wild weather outside, the musical items performed at the instrumental soiree created a beautiful atmosphere of calm and elegance. Well fed from a beautiful supper, the audience enjoyed every performance.
Students were able to show the skill and diligence they have put into learning their instruments. The effort that instrumental teachers put into the evening was appreciated by everyone that attended.
LA FETE DES MÈRES - MOTHER'S DAY
BY ELENA AGACHE (FRENCH TEACHER)
As part of their exploration of French culture, students from Prep to Year 6 acknowledged LaFête des Mères (Mother’s Day in France), which was celebrated in France on 31 May, through a special craft activity honouring the important role of mothers and caregivers in our lives. This celebration provides an opportunity for students to reflect on Christian values such as gratitude, respect, and love. It also highlights how God’s love is demonstrated through the many people who nurture and support children, including mothers, grandmothers, aunts, foster parents, and other caring role models.
This year, our school theme, “Knowing Christ – All for God’s Glory,” encourages students to consider how showing appreciation and kindness to others brings glory to God. Through their thoughtful creations, students expressed thankfulness for the love, guidance, and support they receive from those who care for them.
Our Primary students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the card-making and keyring craft activities. While the projects required them to learn and apply a range of new skills, they embraced the challenge with determination, commitment, and a willingness to take positive risks in their learning. Their enthusiasm and perseverance were wonderful to see and highlighted the value of hands-on, creative learning experiences. The activities provided students with a meaningful way to celebrate La Fête des Mères while developing new skills, exploring French culture, and reflecting on the Christian values of gratitude, love, and service to others.
