Wellbeing and Inclusion

Foodbank

Foodbank is Australia's largest food relief organisation, providing food and groceries to charities and schools across the country.  They work with the entire food and grocery industry to collect surplus food that would otherwise be wasted and then distribute it to those in need.  Foodbank's mission is to ensure that everyone has access to good food, regardless of their situation.

We started our journey with Foodbank, just under a year ago now, by getting fruit for all students to access in classroom fruit bowls; some snacks and lunch options for students who might need it and also some family home food packs.

As part of our distribution of Home Packs we also launched the ‘LPS Food Bank Pay It Forward Campaign’.  Each week we get a delivery of Home Food Packs that are passed on to families within our school community.  The ‘Pay It Forward’ part of the campaign means that if you receive a Home Food Pack you have the option of keeping it, or passing it on to another person or family whom you know might appreciate some extra food staples for the pantry.  Due to these Home Food Packs being a little bit heavy for some students to carry, you may receive a phone call from your child’s classroom teacher to come in and collect.

Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships

As part of our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program, students will be discussing the importance of identifying 3–5 trusted adults from school, home, and the wider community over the next two weeks.

Trusted adults are people children feel safe with and can turn to for support, advice, or help if they are worried or upset.  These may include parents, carers, relatives, teachers, education support staff, coaches, neighbours, or community leaders.  Identifying a network of trusted adults is an important protective strategy that helps children build resilience, develop confidence in help seeking, and strengthen their sense of safety and wellbeing.  It also reinforces the message that children are supported by caring adults in different areas of their lives and that help is always available when they need it.

Please take some time to discuss with your child who their trusted adults are and how these people can support them when needed.
