News - from the kitchen & garden

Our cooking and gardening classes are each Tuesday

We would love to have more volunteers in both the garden and kitchen classes.

No garden or kitchen skills required, enthusiasm to support the students as they learn is all you need.

If you would like to know more, come into the office and see Chris (Principal)

This week in Cooking, Grade Prep and 1 made Pumpkin and Cheese Scones, Cheese and Herb Scones and GF Dairy Free Pumpkin Scones that we served with the delicious Pumpkin and Tomato soup Grade 4 and 5 made last week.

From the garden we used pumpkin,  chives, parsley, rosemary and tomato passata (to top up the soup).

Marcus and his group made the Cheese and Herb Scones. Elio and his team chopped the parsley finely and Poppie chopped the chives.  Luca and his group grated the tasty cheese and parmesan cheese. They measured the ingredients and mixed it together.  Marcus showed them how to mix the ingredients lightly with a knife to make sure the scones would be light and fluffy.  Kendre, Elio, Jesse and their group then used the scone cutters to cut out the Herb and Cheese scones.

For the Pumpkin and Cheese Scones,  Cooper, Jesse and their team  grated the cheese.  Nicholas chopped some rosemary finely and helped his team mash the pumpkin and added it to the whizzed up  butter and flour.

Xavier and Cooper added the mashed pumpkin, then everyone had a turn to mix all the ingredients with the pumpkin to make the scone dough.  Everyone made sure they mixed the dough carefully so the scones would rise well.

Matilda, Phoebe, Nina and Edie worked well together to make the Gluten Free and Dairy Free Pumpkin scones. They measured out the ingredients, mashed the pumpkin and added some cinnamon for extra flavour.

Kendre, Elio, Nicholas, Cooper and their team learnt how to set the table with plates and knives and soup spoons. They did a great job working out how many places were needed and setting out the plates and cutlery.

While the tables were being set Matilda and her group collected flowers and leaves to decorate the table.   Phoebe, Nina and Xavier learnt how to dry the dishes from the dishwasher and did a great stacking them in groups ready to put away.

Everyone loved the Pumpkin and Cheese and Herb and Cheese scones they made and really enjoyed the delicious Pumpkin and Tomato Soup the Grade 4 and 5 class made last week.

Great cooking Grade Prep and 1  and thanks Marcus.
