Years 11 & 12
Last week, our Year 11 students had the opportunity to step away from their usual routine and engage in a meaningful and reflective experience led by the Youth Mission Team. The day provided time and space to explore important themes of identity, connection and faith, all within the supportive context of their peers.
The first session, "Our Uniqueness and Individuality", encouraged students to reflect on the gift of who they are. In a world that can often pressure young people to conform, this session was a powerful reminder that each person is uniquely created and deeply valued. Students were invited to celebrate their individuality and consider how they might live more authentically, without compromising their core values or beliefs.
In the second session, "Loving and Appreciating Others", the team explored the concept of the “masks” we sometimes wear to protect ourselves or to fit in. Students were challenged to move beyond surface-level interactions and embrace vulnerability. This led to some incredibly honest and affirming conversations among peers, strengthening bonds and deepening mutual respect.
The final session, "God’s Unconditional Acceptance", offered students a moment of quiet contemplation and personal reflection. They were reminded of the infinite love and acceptance God offers to each of us, not because of what we do, but simply because of who we are.
Throughout the day, there was a strong sense of community, trust and spiritual growth.
We are so proud of the way our students engaged with the themes and supported one another. The Reflection Day was not just a pause in the school calendar, but a moment of genuine encounter, with self, others and God.
We are grateful to the Youth Mission Team for their dynamic and compassionate leadership and to our Year 11 students for their openness and courage.
Our Year 12 students recently took part in their final school Reflection Day at the beautiful Amberley Retreat Centre, a day designed to offer space away from the pressures of study and exams and to reconnect with themselves, each other and their faith.
The theme of the day was "Pave the Way," an invitation to think deeply about personal values, purpose and the journey that lies ahead after graduation.
Students were privileged to hear from Rachel Prince, the VIC/TAS Youth and Schools Engagement Officer from Catholic Mission and a proud Academy alumna. Rachel shared her own journey since leaving the Academy, highlighting how faith, compassion and courage have shaped her path. Her heartfelt message encouraged students to embrace leadership and service as they look toward life beyond the school gates.
The group also heard from Alyssa Huynh, author of "Safe Space, who shared her powerful story of resilience and advocacy. Alyssa’s honesty and vulnerability gave students permission to reflect on their own challenges and the importance of creating and holding space for others with kindness and integrity. Her session prompted deep thought around personal identity, justice, the effects of racism and online bullying and how to carry our values into the wider world.
Alyssa sent this email the following morning:
"I truly appreciated the opportunity to be a part of your Reflection Day. I can’t quite put into words how much today meant to me. Everyone was open-hearted, kind and so engaged. Such a thoughtful, compassionate group of young women. I have no doubt they’ll go on to do beautifully meaningful things in the world."
We are so proud of our Year 12 students for the maturity and depth they brought to the experience, and we hope the lessons and inspirations of the day will accompany them as they prepare for their next chapter.
