Year 7 Science

Our Year 7 students have recently been exploring the fascinating world of classification in Science.  As part of their learning, they had the opportunity to observe a squid dissection – an experience that was equal parts exciting and educational!

Through this hands-on investigation, students examined the internal organs of the squid, gaining insight into the structure and function of its body systems.  They also closely observed the squid’s pen – a remnant of its internal support – and compared it to the hard external shell of a prawn (an exoskeleton) and the internal skeleton of a fish.

These comparisons helped students deepen their understanding of how different animals are grouped and classified based on their physical features.

This engaging activity sparked thoughtful questions and rich discussion, reinforcing the importance of observation and curiosity in science.  It was a memorable way to bring textbook concepts to life!
