Honoring Our Past, Embracing Stories

This month has been one of reflection and remembrance as we commemorated both National Reconciliation Week and the 140th anniversary of Mother Ursula Frayne's passing.  These meaningful observances remind us of the power of stories to bridge understanding, heal wounds and connect us across time and culture.

During Reconciliation Week, our library hosted students exploring Indigenous Australian voices through literature, creating a deeper appreciation for the rich storytelling traditions that have shaped our continent for thousands of years.  The stories shared highlighted themes of connection to country, resilience and the ongoing journey toward understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Mother Ursula Frayne's legacy continues to inspire our school community 140 years after her death.  Her dedication to education and her belief in the transformative power of learning echo through our library today.  She understood that books and stories could open minds, challenge perspectives and create pathways to empathy and wisdom.

Our archivist, Ms Parkinson has curated an amazing display for us to discover more about Mother Ursula Frayne’s life.

Winter Reading: The Perfect Season for Stories

As the cooler weather settles in and the days grow shorter, there's nothing quite like curling up with a captivating book.  Winter provides the perfect backdrop for losing yourself in other worlds, whether it's by a cozy fireplace, under a warm blanket, or in a quiet corner of our library.

The library has been buzzing with students discovering new favorites and revisiting beloved classics.  From heartwarming contemporary novels to thrilling adventures, from thought-provoking non-fiction to beautiful poetry collections, our shelves are brimming with stories waiting to be discovered.

Consider this season an invitation to slow down and savor the reading experience.  Let the stories transport you to distant lands, introduce you to unforgettable characters, and perhaps even help you see the world through new eyes.

Don't forget to check out our special displays featuring books that celebrate Indigenous voices and stories that reflect themes of reconciliation, understanding, and cultural connection.  These carefully curated selections offer windows into experiences that broaden our perspectives and deepen our empathy.

Looking Ahead

As we move deeper into winter, remember that the library is here as your haven for discovery, learning and quiet contemplation.  Whether you're seeking your next great read, working on assignments, or simply looking for a peaceful place to think, our doors are always open.

Happy reading, and may your winter be filled with wonderful stories.
