John XXIII Rowing Club

Dear Rowing Families
The John XXIII Rowing Club is gearing up for a busy end to the term with regattas every weekend for the next four weeks. The girls’ squad are again competing in an IGSSA regatta this Saturday, and the following weekend we have a Saturday IGSSA regatta and the boys’ squads' first outing to Champion Lakes for All Schools Regatta 1 on Sunday.
Please remember to get adequate rest and allow yourself recovery time, considering all the racing you’ll be doing.
With the weather getting wetter and colder, please remember to bring sneakers, a towel and a change of clothes in case we have to do a land session or it rains heavily.
Upcoming regattas
There are three weekends in a row for the girls, culminating in the Head of the River on Saturday 21 June. The Senior boys are also entering a long-distance race, the Perth to Fremantle on Sunday 22 June.
With all these events coming up, please ensure you are getting adequate rest, eating well, and staying hydrated to perform well both in school and at rowing.
Keep an eye out for the sign-up for all regattas.
2025 Year 8 Learn to Row
Our Year 8s could not get out on the water this week, unfortunately, but they handled the rowing ergometer sessions well. We worked on technique and timing with others, and they did their first interval piece.
Initially, the Year 8s were going to race in the All Schools regatta on Sunday 15 June; however, with almost half of the Year 8s at Music Camp, a decision has been made that they will instead compete in the All Schools Regatta on Saturday 28 June and in Term 3, on Saturday 26 July. Year 8 students do not need to purchase a zootsuit and can race in their PE uniform.
A WhatsApp group has been created for Year 8 parents. Please contact me if you haven’t been added to it. You can still contact me via email.
Lunchtime ergometer showcase
We will be holding our ergometer competition next Wednesday 11 June, at lunchtime in the Pavilion. Rowers are encouraged to participate to showcase rowing to their fellow students and as a recruiting campaign for Year 7s. More details will be sent to individual squads if you are interested in getting involved.
Year 7 Learn to Row
The Year 7 Learn to Row program will be held in Term 3, details and registration will be sent out towards the end of the term.
Please contact me if you have any queries.
Uniforms
The new Zootsuit is now in stock at the Uniform Shop. There is also a training top which can be worn under the zootsuit. The only compulsory item is the Zootsuit for racing at regattas. There is stock of the old Zootsuit which can be worn. Year 8s can wear their PE uniform to race in and are not required to purchase a Zootsuit.
Stack Team App
Please download the Stack Team App if you have not already done so. This app is one of our main avenues for communication with rowers and their parents. This is the central place for training schedules, training updates, and rowers can contact their coach in case of illness or injury and missed trainings. It is important that all rowers and parents have access.
To get this app please go to the App Store or Google Play and download Stack Team App onto your mobile device, then follow these simple steps:
- Sign-up to Stack Team App. You’ll be sent an email to confirm your registration.
- Log-in and search for JTCRC, then request to become a member.
