Principal's Thoughts

A person’s a person no matter how small… Ps 139?
I'm so proud of the RCC musical production that was Seussical Jr.
Not just because of the phenomenal singing, acting and dancing that entertained us, or the stage and the costumes that drew the audience into a magical land of pure joy. Nor just because of the sheer joy of seeing our students shine in the gifts that God has given them. I am so proud because our students shared a message of deep hope and enduring truth that reminds us that we are all valuable and worth the effort of loving.
I promise I won't wreck this moment by allowing the English teacher in me to over analyse the universal truths that exist within Suess’s imagination, however I feel the final element of this musical journey that must be celebrated is the inspiring truth that exists within the stories of Horton, JoJo, Mayzie, Gertrude, that Cat and all the Whos. Namely, that a person’s a person no matter how small.
Whilst it's not a new concept, by any stretch of the imagination, we must be reminded of this in our ever increasing world that is supposedly more connected than ever before. This particular story challenged us to recognise that whilst the individual's worth can be overshadowed by those in our culture who celebrate fame, fortune and material success, it may not be what should be, nor what was intended.
In Ps 139 the psalmist reminds us that God created my inmost being; He knit me together in my mother's womb. It goes on to call out the truth that we are fearfully and wonderfully made; and His works are wonderful. Our frame was not hidden from Him when we were made in the secret place, when we were woven together in the depths of the earth.
This biblical poem reveals that our worth runs much deeper than material success, fame or fortune. The fact that the God of the universe not only knows us but has had good plans for us before time began hopefully inspires in us an enduring sense of worth and a response of thankful praise.
It's essentially the biblical version of Horton’s constant reminder that a person is a person no matter how small and we should be as reliable as an elephant who is true to his word!
I don't think I will ever forget the picture of an elephant sitting on an egg talking to a speck of dust and sharing one of the greatest secrets to a successful community like ours because when we do take a step back and realise that a person is a person no matter how small everyone's chances of having a positive impact increase.
Again, a massive thank you to everybody who was involved (yes, I'm intentionally not naming everybody because you’re all important – no matter how small) for giving our community the opportunity to share our gifts and spur us on to greater things.
Good Tidings,
Jonno
