Principal's Report

by Helen Freeman, Principal

What a special way for us to start the school week at assembly this week with an amazing music performance by Ada from Year 6. Ada has been playing the ‘Guzheng’ since kindergarten. The Guzheng is a Chinese plucked zither, steeped in tradition. The music Ada performed is called ‘Fighting the Typhoon’ and it took her many months of dedicated practise to memorise this special piece of music. Throughout Ada’s performance we all listened in awe of her amazing talent ’you could have heard a pin drop'. You are a Syndal South Super Star, Ada!

Cross Country

Congratulations to the members of the Cross-Country Team who competed last week in the Division Cross Country all achieving their personal best. Sheer fitness and resilience have seen Lucas, Imogen and Eddie move through to the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Cross Country at the Yarra Valley Racecourse on Thursday 12th June. Congratulations and all the best to these super stars!

Aerobics

Congratulations to our Aerobics Teams who performed last week for their parents in the Hall, it was a great opportunity for the teams to perform live to an audience and they all did an amazing job especially the students who are new to aerobics this year. They are all practising hard for the upcoming Aerobics Action Challenge on Saturday 14th June at Patterson Lakes. Go Syndal!!

Dogs in the Playground

At the moment we allow dogs on lead to be in the playground under the supervision of an adult, before school and at school pick up time. We understand that this works well for families who live close to the school and use this as a good time to exercise their dog.

As we know and respect not all children and adults are comfortable being close to dogs this may be for several reasons. So, it is important that parents make sure that when they bring their dog to school that it is kept on a short lead.

Colour Explosion Winning Lunch

You might remember that 2J were the winning class, raising the most money for the Colour Explosion last term. The class have now enjoyed their ‘Subway Lunch’ generously paid for by the PA, to celebrate their success.

Education Week Celebrations!

Tomorrow, we welcome parents and grandparents to school to celebrate Education Week. The theme for this year is Celebration of Cultures. Our family homework task was a huge success - the information shared, and the quality of the posters has been incredible. Posters will be up on display for us to share tomorrow.   All students in their classrooms tomorrow afternoon will be engaged in a task based on a cultural text. We do hope you can come and join in with the activity.

Look forward to seeing as many as we can tomorrow from 2.30 pm.

Have a fabulous fortnight ahead.
