School Routine Update

Dear Families,

We are writing to let you know about some important changes to our school routines that will be phased in, beginning from Monday, 2nd June. These changes are being made to support teacher entitlements.

These changes are:

·      Whole School Supervised Eating Time

·      Students not entering the classroom until 8:50

1. Whole School Supervised Eating Time (beginning Week 7 - Monday 2nd June)

Currently, classroom teachers supervise their class during lunch and recess eating times. We are introducing a dedicated whole-school eating time during these breaks. Students will eat together in small groups in a designated location and be supervised by a teacher or support staff member.

During this time, students will be expected to:

  • Sit in their designated area for 10 minutes to eat
  • Keep sports equipment away until eating time is finished
  • Tidy up their space before going to play

The classroom teachers will explicitly teach these expectations as consistent routines help create a calm, respectful environment and support student wellbeing.

2. New Morning Routine for Years 1–6 (beginning Week 8 – Tuesday 10th June)

From Tuesday, 10th June, students in Years 1 to 6 will no longer enter their classrooms before school. Instead, they will:

  • Place their bags in a line on the oval, where they usually assemble after recess and lunch.
  • Be collected by their teacher at 8:50 am from this time, and walked as a class to their room.
  • Have access to the hall forquiet reading. This will support students who prefer a quieter start to the day.

There will be three members of the school leadership team on duty each morning:

  • One at the school gate
  • One on the playground (roaming)
  • One in the hall

If it is raining, we will call a wet-weather morning, and students will make their way to the classroom. As access to the classrooms will be restricted in the mornings, we ask that if you wish to speak with your child’s teacher, please email to arrange a time. We understand this is a shift from past practice, so we appreciate your understanding.

2. Supporting All Students

We know that change can be challenging for some students. If you believe your child may need extra support during this transition, please contact Georgie, Stacey or myself. We are committed to ensuring all students feel supported and safe.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch either by calling through to the school or emailing me at dean.butler@sjmalvern.catholic.edu.au
