National Reconciliation Week

In Week Five, our College community came together to commemorate National Sorry Day and participate in a meaningful and inspiring National Reconciliation Week. It was a time to reflect, share, and celebrate our commitment to reconciliation and cultural understanding.

On Monday, 26 May staff, students, and special guests gathered for a powerful flag-raising ceremony. The event included a Welcome to Country and a Smoking Ceremony, both led by Elders Vivienne and Morton Hansen. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a morning tea together, fostering connection and reflection.

Throughout the week, a range of engaging activities took place. Highlights included an excursion to Kings Park for the Remembering Indigenous Soldiers service, and a walk for reconciliation to our newly established yarning circle. Here, students and staff had the opportunity to learn some Nyoongar language and deepen their understanding of Nyoongar culture.

The yarning circle, a valuable addition to our Cultural Program, has been warmly welcomed by students. We extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated maintenance team for making it possible.

Our community also rallied to support the Children’s Ground “Wear It Yellow” campaign, raising over $300 to help provide education and support for First Nations children in remote communities. Fundraising efforts included a raffle, with prizes awarded to one lucky student and teacher!

We are also proud to announce that our College has officially submitted our new Reconciliation Action Plan—a significant milestone that reflects our ongoing dedication to reconciliation.

A heartfelt congratulations and thank you must go to everyone involved, especially the students who demonstrated exceptional leadership and represented our school with pride throughout the week.
