Resource Library News

TERM 2 WRAP

As Term 2 wraps up, we’re proud to reflect on another busy and vibrant term in the College Resource Library. Over the past nine weeks, we’ve celebrated and recognised a range of special events, including ANZAC Day in the Library, a College Open Night, Inclusion & Diversity Day, National Simultaneous Storytime, and Education Week. It’s been fantastic to see students engaging with themed displays, storytime sessions, and classroom activities throughout.

Library borrowing classes continued successfully from Prep to Year 9, supported by our dedicated Term 2 library monitors—Jaxon, Younis, and Christine—who helped keep the space organised and well-stocked. Our lunchtime clubs—Makerspace (including the growing chess corner), Creators Club, and Comic Club—have been vibrant and evergrowing. It's been wonderful to see students making the most of these creative opportunities.

A major behind-the-scenes effort this term has been the processing of over 1,000 new books—cataloguing, covering, labelling, genrefying, and entering them into our library system. We’ve also been excited to take part in a couple of events coming later this month;  the State Library of Victoria’s Book Bash event and welcome a visit from the creators of The InMag to inspire students through storytelling, youth voice, and creativity.

Thanks to all students and staff for your ongoing support—we are looking forward to an action-packed Term 3!

TERM 2 STAR READER

Each term, the Star Reader Award celebrates a student who demonstrates outstanding dedication to reading and library engagement. Congratulations to our Term 2 recipient, Christine E (Grade 6)! Christine’s enthusiasm for books, consistent participation in library activities, and thoughtful contributions as a library monitor have truly made her stand out this term.Well done, Christine – we’re so proud of your efforts and can’t wait to see where your reading journey takes you next! 📖✨

SENIOR BORROWING

Throughout Term 2, our Year 7–9 library sessions have continued to provide students with the opportunity to read for enjoyment and engage in meaningful literacy discussions. These sessions remain a vital part of our reading program, with a focus on building positive reading habits and fostering a lifelong love of literature.

This term, we introduced a refreshed approach to structuring our senior classes by beginning each session with a picture storybook, carefully selected by library staff. The text is read aloud by either the classroom teacher or a student volunteer. This simple yet effective strategy has helped set a calm tone, spark conversation, and improve student engagement during library time.

RETURNING RESOURCES

As Term 2 comes to a close, all students need to be aware of overdue books. If you have not brought your book to your last library session, it needs to be seen by library staff before the end of term to ensure it does not become overdue.

  • All P-2 students need to return all library books by Monday 30 June. This ensures that they are able to borrow new books in week 1 of term 3.
  • All remaining 3-12 students need to either re-borrow or return library books by Friday 4 July (this includes textbooks and other resources).

SLV BOOK BASH

We're excited to bring a special event to our Resource Library, thanks to the State Library of Victoria! Across three days in late June, students will take part in daily writing workshops streamed live from some of Australia’s biggest literary names — all during scheduled library sessions.

✨ Tuesday 24 June – Best-selling author Anh Do shares his storytelling secrets.

✨ Wednesday 25 June – Sally Rippin, current Australian Children’s Laureate, dives into creating unforgettable characters.

✨ Thursday 26 June – Award-winning author Amelia Mellor reveals how to end your story with impact.

This exciting experience is also a prelude to our Book Week celebrations in August. We can't wait to see students inspired and engaged in the world of writing!

THE INMAG

We’re proud to feature The InMag in our library – a fresh and empowering magazine created for students navigating life, school, and what comes next. From real stories and big ideas to conversations about mental health, identity, culture, and career pathways, The InMag helps young people feel seen, supported and inspired. We've had a fantastic response from both staff and students so far and can’t wait to see new issues hit our shelves!

Library Visit

The Resource Library is excited to present a special library session on Monday 23 June. For students on Monday morning, the creators of The InMag (Ryan and Tam) will be calling into our library sessions, chatting all things creative and sharing bits about the magazine. We are super privileged to have them at our college library, brainstorming with our students.

NEW RESOURCES

This term, the College Resource Library processed and added over 1,000 new books to our shelves. This significant update involved careful cataloguing, genrefying, labelling, contacting, and data entry to ensure each item is ready for borrowing. The refreshed and expanded collection continues to support a wide range of reading levels, interests, and curriculum needs across P–12.
