F/1/2 CLASSROOM

It has been another busy and exciting few weeks in our Foundation, Grade One, and Grade Two classrooms!

Our Foundation students have been working hard to consolidate a wide range of letter sounds, and we are thrilled to share that they have now begun taking home readers and reading diaries! There was a real buzz of excitement as students proudly selected their first readers to share with their families—what a joyful way to celebrate their growing confidence as readers.

Grade One students continue to master a variety of spelling rules and consonant blends, with noticeable growth in how these skills are transferring into both their writing and reading. Their developing accuracy and fluency have been wonderful to see.

Our Grade Two students are diving deeper into grammar, spelling, and comprehension. With consistent and focused lessons throughout the week, they are working steadily toward their individual learning goals. Across all levels, regular progression testing and cumulative review help us clearly identify each student’s point of need, allowing us to deliver targeted and meaningful learning experiences.

We have also been fortunate to welcome some outstanding Pre-Service Teachers into our classrooms over the past few weeks. In Weeks Two and Three, Miss Jess McLean worked beautifully with students, delivering engaging and well-aligned lessons in Mathematics and Inquiry. Jess was a fantastic asset to our classroom. More recently, in Weeks Three to Five, we’ve enjoyed working with Miss Laura Martin, who has brought enthusiasm and thoughtful planning to her teaching in Religious Education, Inquiry, English, and Maths. It is a privilege to support and collaborate with these emerging educators as they embark on their teaching journey.

In Inquiry, our F/1/2 students are exploring Biological Science. They have investigated the features of living and non-living things and what living things need to survive. We are now learning about animal habitats and adaptations, and how animals use their environments to support their survival. The level of curiosity and engagement from students has been fantastic.

In Religious Education, students have been reflecting on celebrations—both at home and in the Church. A visit to our parish church sparked thoughtful conversations, and students followed up with some beautiful sketches of the special features they observed. These moments are helping deepen their understanding of community and faith in meaningful and creative ways.

There’s never a dull day in F/1/2—we’re so proud of all the learning and joy happening in our classroom each day!
