Visual Arts in Year 3/4

Through Visual Arts, students learn to communicate their personal ideas, beliefs, values, and emotions, translating their lived or imagined experiences into visual forms.

This term, our Year 3/4 students are diving into the world of sculpture and three-dimensional artworks, exploring how art serves as a powerful means of expression.

Art offers children a fun and engaging way to develop fine motor skills that are crucial for interacting with the world around them. While it may seem like a solitary activity, Visual Art also provides many opportunities for positive interactions, collaboration, and group work. This term, we are encouraging our students to sharpen their observation and analytical skills, helping them grow as both artists and thoughtful individuals.

Students have been working on the following three projects:

  • an egg carton animal portrait
  • a pinch-pot clay fish sculpture and
  • sewing a Pete Cromer-inspired felt softie of a native Australian animal.

The students loved the process of designing and constructing artworks that used a variety of art materials and required different skills to manipulate.

Here are some examples of our hard work:

Year 3/4 Music

In Year 3/4 Music, we are learning the Recorder. The word on the street is that parents (and some teachers) are not huge fans of this amazing instrument. However, we have learnt two BIG things to win the parents and teachers over.

  • Blow softly and with control - we blow on our open hand
  • Cover the holes with flat fingers (moon shape on the pads of our fingers) when moving our fingers to play different songs.

Book Week Friendship Picnic

Our Book Week theme this year was ‘Reading is Wondrous!’

From watching their teacher dress up as Wally to enjoying a Friendship Picnic, to hearing from author Andrew McDonough, to the Parade, our students were lost in a world full of wonder.

Here are a few photos from our Friendship Picnic, where students were encouraged to bring a book, rug and lunch and to make new friends.
